Did you know we produce 200 billion garments every year for just 8 billion people? That’s 25 pieces per person annually. How many more can we consume?

I had the privilege of representing the Thai Garment Manufacturers’ Association at the Asia-Pacific Textile & Apparel Supply Chain Conference in Singapore. This statistic underscores a critical truth: growth through volume is no longer sustainable.

Key insights shaping the future:

1️⃣ Unlike automotive or pharmaceutical industries, fashion brands do not operate their own production. This disconnect creates inefficiencies and waste.

2️⃣ To overcome this, we must move beyond transactional relationships. The future lies in true partnerships — brands and manufacturers working as one team to deliver agility, speed, and flexibility, producing what consumers truly need rather than relying on lowest cost and end-of-season discounts.

3️⃣ Global demand is stagnant — with 25 garments per person per year, chasing volume is not the answer.

The next era of fashion supply chains will be defined by collaboration, innovation, and value creation. Those who embrace this shift will lead the industry forward.
