VT Garment’s Recent Kaizen Competition: A Celebration of Continuous Improvement

At VT Garment, Kaizen is more than just a concept—it’s a way of life. Our recent Kaizen competition showcased this commitment to continuous improvement, emphasising that Kaizen is applicable to all types of jobs, not just factory or assembly line work. It extends to indirect jobs, support roles, and office positions as well.

Today, our canteen buzzed with excitement as teams from various departments, including accounting, sales, purchasing, planning, HR, pattern making, and quality assurance, came together to present their innovative ideas. The essence of Kaizen is to find ways to improve your work, and the immediate beneficiary is yourself. Many work improvements, especially in service and office-related tasks, can free up time and eliminate the need for extended work hours, thereby enhancing the quality of work life.

The competition featured a range of simple yet impactful ideas. For instance, making it mandatory to input information into our ERP system to avoid forgetting crucial details, enforced by the system. The system will not allow saving if the required field is left blank, acting as a pokayoke (error-proofing) mechanism rather than relying on human intuition or effort. Another idea involved using AI to transcribe pictures into text, significantly reducing time and effort. Additionally, connecting the dots by using information already typed up by others instead of typing or writing it ourselves helps avoid errors and mistakes, streamlining our processes.

Great ideas need to be encouraged, and our Kaizen competition is a testament to that. It’s not rocket science, but small improvements can compound into significant changes over time. Let’s continue to deny the status quo and strive for continuous improvement in everything we do.
